Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian gave an offensive speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, accusing the United States of terrorism and saying Iran will never bow its head in the face of American pressure, according to France 24.
This speech comes in a context of persistent tensions between Tehran and Washington. Despite the firm tone of his speech, diplomatic contacts continued on the sidelines of the UN session between Iranian officials and US envoy Steve Witkoff, a sign that dialogue between the two countries has not been completely broken.
In recent months, the Iranian authorities have multiplied statements denouncing what they consider to be acts of aggression on the part of the United States and its allies. Tehran's position nevertheless remains marked by a stated desire to maintain a channel of discussion, even informal, with Washington.
No date has been given for a possible resumption of more formal negotiations between the two countries at the end of this session of the General Assembly.
