Claire Simon's Documentary Gives High School Students a Voice on Annie Ernaux's Work

Filmmaker Claire Simon has made a new documentary, "Writing Life: Annie Ernaux as Told by High School Students", in which she films teenagers in French class confronted with the writings of the author, Nobel Prize for Literature.
The film was shot in several schools, in mainland France as well as in French Guiana, offering a look at the way in which young readers appropriate the work of Annie Ernaux, known in particular for her autobiographical writing.
The documentary is part of a literary transmission process, giving a voice to a generation of high school students in front of texts that address personal and societal themes.
The film's release was accompanied by a critical reception that was considered positive for its approach to Ernaux's literary work through the prism of youth.
