Lawyers representing six Kanak leaders sent to pretrial detention in mainland France in June 2024 filed a complaint with France's Court of Justice of the Republic against former Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and several members of his government, Le Monde reported.

The lawyers denounced what they called a "reprehensible reason of state," according to the report, and are seeking prosecution of Attal and ministers over the response to riots in New Caledonia.
