Lavrov accuses NATO of seeking to extend influence beyond its area of responsibility

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said NATO is seeking to extend its influence far beyond its traditional area of responsibility, according to remarks carried by Russia's state news agency TASS.

Lavrov said the principles of broad and equal cooperation underpin initiatives by Russian President Vladimir Putin to establish a 'Greater Eurasian Partnership' and a new security architecture spanning the Eurasian continent.

The remarks are part of a series of statements Lavrov made addressing Russia's foreign policy priorities, in which he has repeatedly criticized the Western military alliance's posture and expansion.

TASS did not report an immediate response from NATO or its member states to Lavrov's comments.
