The government has suspended its plan to restructure English local councils following strong protests from council leaders.
England's council leaders expressed strong opposition to the government's local council reorganisation plan last week, according to the Local Government Information Unit. The government has now paused the initiative, which was not mentioned in Labour's election manifesto.
The plan would have implemented a uniform restructuring of councils across England. Council leaders told the LGIU they were not forewarned about the reorganisation.
