Labour bars Declassified UK journalists from party conference for third year running
Three journalists from investigative outlet Declassified UK were denied media passes for Labour's Liverpool conference, despite being accredited with the National Union of Journalists.
Journalists from Declassified UK, an investigative media organisation, have been banned from the Labour party conference for a third consecutive year.
Declassified reported that three of its journalists were denied media passes for the party's conference in Liverpool, with Labour claiming that passes were only given to organisations with a "relevant portfolio."
Accreditation dispute
Declassified said this justification does not match the credentials of its staff, noting that its journalists are accredited with the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), and that one staff member also holds membership in the Parliamentary Press Gallery.
A statement attributed to the party said organisers reserve the right to reject an application if they cannot find evidence that the applicant is a working journalist or photographer with a political portfolio, or is working on behalf of a relevant media outlet.
The repeated exclusion of Declassified UK journalists from the conference for a third year in a row has drawn attention to how media accreditation decisions are made for major party events, with Declassified disputing the party's characterisation of its journalists' credentials.
