Season 5 of Fauda on Netflix reignites debate over the Israeli series' moral ambiguity
Shot after the October 7 attacks, the new season of the series "Fauda," which follows an Israeli special unit infiltrated in the Palestinian Territories, is dividing Jerusalem between loyal fans and critics denouncing an abandonment of its initial nuance.
The fifth season of the Israeli series "Fauda" ("chaos" in Arabic) has been released on Netflix, according to RFI. The series follows members of an Arabic-speaking special unit of the Israeli military that infiltrates the Palestinian Territories and Gaza.
Since its inception, "Fauda" had been praised for the prominence given to its Palestinian characters and for its apparent refusal to resort to moral simplicity in depicting the two sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, RFI reports.
According to RFI, this ambition is no longer evident in this fifth season. The series was filmed after the attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7, and two episodes of the new season are devoted to these events.
In Jerusalem, the release of this season is generating mixed reactions, RFI indicates, pointing to both devoted fans of the series and detractors criticizing its evolution.
