Drought persists in France despite late-summer rainfall

The drought affecting France for several months shows no signs of improvement, despite rainfall recorded in late summer, reports Le Monde.

According to the newspaper, the phenomenon is not subsiding and is even continuing to intensify across the country, as soils have become particularly dry.

Le Monde notes that significant uncertainty now hangs over autumn recharge of groundwater aquifers, a process normally critical for replenishing water reserves before winter.
