Iranian photographer Newsha Tavakolian showcases Iranian youth through her archives
Following Mahsa Amini's death in 2022, Tavakolian compiled photographs spanning three decades to document the hopes and disillusionment of young Iranians.
Iranian photographer Newsha Tavakolian has drawn from her archives photographs taken over the past thirty years to tell the story of Iranian youth, shortly after the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement triggered by Mahsa Amini's death in 2022.
These images, which she describes as "failed shots," led to the creation of the book "And They Laughed at Me". According to Tavakolian, "there are so many young people moving forward" in Iran and "they love life and they are fighting for it".
