Myanmar's junta contests the legitimacy of its UN ambassador

Myanmar's military-backed government declared on Sunday, September 13, that its ambassador to the United Nations, Kyaw Moe Tun, is illegitimately holding his position, according to RFI.
According to military authorities, the diplomat, who remained loyal to ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi following the February 2021 coup, no longer legitimately represents Myanmar at the international organization.
Kyaw Moe Tun drew international attention shortly after the military takeover by refusing to relinquish his seat and calling for international action against the junta during a session of the UN General Assembly. He has continued to hold the position since then, something Naypyidaw is now publicly contesting.
The UN has not, at this stage, changed its recognition of the diplomat as Myanmar's permanent representative, according to information reported by RFI.
