France 24 has been banned from broadcasting in Guinea following comments by a presenter who described the head of state, General Mamadi Doumbouya, as a "coup president." Guinea's authorities have not yet specified how long the ban will remain in effect.
Since coming to power, according to Le Monde, General Doumbouya's regime has dissolved the country's main political parties, banned and cracked down on demonstrations, and arrested numerous dissidents, with some convicted, others forced into exile, and still others reported missing.
