KP governor, Italian delegation discuss air connectivity, air ambulance plans

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi held a meeting on Wednesday with a delegation from Italy's FRI-EL Group, led by the company's vice chairman and chief executive officer, Josef Gostner, to discuss cooperation in the aviation sector.

The discussions centered on promoting regional air connectivity within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the wider region, as well as a proposal to establish air ambulance services. Improved air links and emergency medical transport have been recurring priorities for provincial authorities seeking to connect remote and underserved areas with major urban centers.

Aviation cooperation on the agenda

FRI-EL Group, an Italian company, was represented at the meeting by its vice chairman and CEO. While the specific terms or next steps of any potential cooperation were not detailed in the announcement, the meeting signals continued engagement between the provincial government and international partners on aviation infrastructure and services.

Regional connectivity remains a persistent challenge in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where mountainous terrain and distance from major airports can hinder both civilian travel and emergency response. An air ambulance service, if developed, could help address gaps in emergency medical access for communities in harder-to-reach areas of the province.
