Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sikh Anand Kaaraj Bill advances in legislative process
Lawmakers, officials and Sikh community representatives reviewed the bill's provisions ahead of its expected introduction in the provincial assembly, APP reported.
Parliamentarians, government officials, and representatives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Sikh community met in Peshawar to review the proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sikh Anand Kaaraj Bill, 2026, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
The briefing, organized by the Parliamentary Caucus on Minorities in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, covered the bill's key provisions and outlined the remaining steps before it can be placed before the provincial legislature, according to APP.
The Anand Kaaraj is the traditional Sikh marriage ceremony, and legislation of this kind is intended to give the ceremony formal legal recognition for marriage registration purposes.
Representatives of human rights institutions also took part in the discussion, APP said, though the news agency did not report a specific timeline for when the bill might be formally introduced or voted on.
