Jon Ronson, recovering from surgery in upstate New York in 2023, began investigating after his adult son texted about attending a party at a stranger's castle in Connecticut. The host, Chris Mark, a sixtysomething steel heir, was filming a reality show about "101 princesses" with the stated rule of "Never say no to King Chris."
Mark told Ronson he recruits women from dating apps to "adapt" them to life as "princesses," stating "the only girls that really work are drug addicts ... they don't know what's going on." Mark requested Ronson sign an NDA and later sent threatening messages when Ronson declined, according to the book.
