Jaguar Land Rover in talks to sell revamped Defender to Nato countries
The UK carmaker is seeking to capitalise on Europe's rearmament drive by pitching a military version of its Defender to Nato allies
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is in talks with Nato countries about selling them a newly revamped version of its Defender vehicle, according to a report by the Guardian, as the UK-based carmaker looks to benefit from Europe's growing defence spending.
The company is seeking to build on its existing relationship with the British armed forces and tap into what the report describes as a boom in defence expenditure across the continent.
JLR is also among the carmakers bidding for a UK Ministry of Defence contract worth £900m to replace an ageing fleet of Land Rovers that has been out of production since 2016, the report said.
The company is competing for the contract against General Motors and the UK-based manufacturer Ineos, according to the report.
Further details of the talks with Nato member states, including which countries are involved and the scale of any potential deal, were not disclosed in the report.
