Israel Shuts Roads, West Bank Crossings Into Jerusalem for Yom Kippur

Israeli authorities closed roads and crossings leading from the West Bank into Jerusalem on the occasion of Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, according to Anadolu Agency.

The closures affected several routes used by Palestinians to enter the city, disrupting movement for residents of the occupied West Bank who typically travel into Jerusalem, the report said.

Israeli forces were deployed in larger numbers across parts of the city during the holiday period, Anadolu Agency reported, without providing further details on the scale or duration of the deployment.

Yom Kippur is considered the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, observed with fasting and prayer. Israeli authorities have in past years imposed similar travel restrictions on Palestinians during the holiday, citing security measures.
