Iranian army commander highlights maritime sector's role in economic resilience

Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, deputy chief of the Iranian Army for Coordination, has highlighted the strategic importance of the maritime sector to Iran's economic resilience and supply chains, according to state news agency IRNA.

Sayyari's remarks framed the maritime sector as a key pillar in sustaining the flow of goods and resources into and out of the country, particularly at a time when Iran faces ongoing economic pressure from international sanctions.

Officials in Iran have periodically emphasised maritime and naval capacity as both an economic and security asset, given the country's coastline along the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Caspian Sea.

The comments did not detail specific new investments or programmes tied to the maritime sector, focusing instead on its broader strategic role within Iran's economic planning.
