Iran Says It Awaits Trump Response on Offer to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iran said it has presented a proposal to US President Donald Trump under which it would open the strait of Hormuz within six days and begin talks on its nuclear program the following day, according to the Guardian.

In return, Tehran is seeking the lifting of US sanctions on its oil exports, an end to hostilities "on all fronts" including in Lebanon, and the release of some of Iran's frozen assets, the report said.

The proposal is intended to accelerate steps outlined in a memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran in June, particularly by moving up the start of nuclear talks compared with the original timeline, according to the Guardian.

Iran is said to be awaiting a formal response from the Trump administration to the offer, though the report did not indicate a deadline for that response or detail the administration's initial reaction.

The strait of Hormuz is a critical corridor for global oil shipments, and any disruption or restoration of full transit through it carries significant implications for energy markets.
