Iran accused of aiding Houthis to militarize Red Sea shipping route
Turkey's Anadolu Agency reports that Iranian Revolutionary Guard experts are helping Yemen's Houthi forces develop advanced weapons near a critical maritime chokepoint.
According to an Interior Ministry statement reported by Anadolu Agency, Iran is seeking to replicate its Strait of Hormuz militarization strategy in the Red Sea by assisting Houthi forces near Bab al-Mandab, a vital shipping corridor. The claim indicates Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) experts are providing technical support for developing missile, drone, and remotely guided boat capabilities.
The statement represents Turkish characterization of Iran's alleged involvement in Houthi military expansion. The Red Sea waterway is one of the world's most strategically important shipping lanes, connecting European and Asian markets through the Suez Canal.
