International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has warned that a boom in artificial intelligence investment, combined with energy market shocks, is contributing to renewed inflationary pressure around the world, according to TASS.
Georgieva said fertilizers, food and key industrial commodities are also becoming more expensive, adding to the strain on household budgets and government finances in many countries, the report said.
She further cautioned that adverse weather patterns linked to El Nino pose additional risks to global food security, layering climate-related supply disruptions on top of existing cost pressures in energy and commodity markets.
The warning comes as central banks in major economies continue to weigh how quickly to adjust interest rates in response to shifting inflation trends, with policymakers wary of reigniting price pressures that proved difficult to tame in recent years.
Georgieva did not specify, in the remarks reported by TASS, which countries or regions she viewed as most exposed to the combined pressures of AI-driven demand for energy, commodity price swings and weather-related disruptions to food production.
