ICAC Hears Labor Councillor Feared Scrutiny Over Liberal Fundraiser

Australia's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) heard that Labor councillor Sharangan Maheswaran feared he would be called to give evidence after attending a Liberal Party fundraiser attended by then-premier Dominic Perrottet, according to The Guardian.

Text messages presented to the inquiry showed Maheswaran writing "Oh shit, did he touch on me?" and asking for an invoice related to the event to be corrected, the newspaper reported.

The Guardian said the texts also indicated he had "an explanation ready" regarding a photo taken with the premier.
