A former Google DeepMind researcher has joined a growing chorus of voices warning of the existential risks that artificial intelligence development could present, according to an article published by Le Monde on September 15, 2026.

This warning comes after several incidents involving artificial intelligence agents, the newspaper reports, without specifying the exact nature of these incidents. These events have intensified debate over the need for stronger oversight of the technology.

According to Le Monde, three of the sector's leading companies, OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind, are considering the creation of a joint body tasked with overseeing risks related to artificial intelligence. This initiative would reflect a desire for coordination among competing players in the face of shared concerns.

The newspaper notes, however, that all industry players do not share the same approach. French company Mistral, while acknowledging the existence of real dangers related to AI, contests calls to slow the pace of technological development, according to reported information.

These disagreements illustrate the tensions currently running through the artificial intelligence sector, between proponents of greater caution regarding potential risks and those who favor rapid continued technological innovation.
