Huge hailstones cause widespread damage in Paraguay's capital

Large hailstones caused widespread damage across parts of Paraguay's capital, Asunción, breaking windows and denting vehicles as a storm moved through the city.

Footage of the aftermath showed the scale of the damage inflicted by the unusually large hail, which affected multiple areas of the capital. The available reporting did not specify the exact neighborhoods hit hardest, the duration of the storm or whether any injuries were reported as a result of the hail.

Severe hailstorms of this kind, while not uncommon during certain weather patterns in parts of South America, can cause significant property damage in a short period of time, particularly to vehicles and glass structures such as windows and skylights.

Assessing the damage

Authorities and residents in Asunción were left to assess the extent of the damage following the storm. Further details on the overall scale of the impact, including any estimate of financial losses or disruption caused, were not included in the available source material.
