Houthi-Controlled Authority Says Red Sea Shipping Traffic Remains Stable
Official cites near-normal vessel numbers through Bab el-Mandeb Strait, according to Russian news agency TASS
The head of a shipping-related corporation controlled by Yemen's Houthi movement said that maritime traffic in the Red Sea has remained stable, Russian news agency TASS reported.
According to the report, the official, identified as al-Washli, said that about 85 vessels passed through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait over the past 72 hours.
Al-Washli said this figure represented almost 96 percent of the normal level of traffic through the strait, TASS reported.
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait, located between Yemen, Djibouti and Eritrea, is a key global shipping route connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
TASS did not provide additional details on the timeframe covered by the figures or independent verification of the data cited by al-Washli.
