The House Oversight Committee voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend that Leon Black, a billionaire financier, be held in contempt of Congress after he refused to comply with subpoenas seeking his testimony and nondisclosure agreements as part of an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, the late sex offender. Black has contended the subpoenas are "invalid" and is suing to block them.
Committee chair James Comer said before the vote that "subpoenas are not suggestions; they carry the force of law and require full compliance." The committee says Black's testimony is crucial because he maintained a close personal relationship with Epstein for years during the period when Epstein was engaged in sex trafficking.
