Homeowners Use Mini Datacentres to Heat Water and Cut Energy Bills

A report from The Guardian describes how some UK homeowners are experimenting with compact computer servers, effectively miniature datacentres, to heat water in their homes rather than relying solely on gas-fired systems.

According to the report, Giles Gibson, who lives in London, has a small server attached to his home's hot water cylinder. The device generates heat as it operates and transfers that heat directly into the tank, meaning the water that comes out of his hot tap is warmed by the server rather than by gas.
