Historian Zeinab Badawi says awareness of African history could fuel continental renewal

In an interview with Le Monde, the British-Sudanese documentarian and academic discusses her new book, which presents African history beyond the lens of slavery and colonization.

British-Sudanese documentary maker and academic Zeinab Badawi has published a book in France titled "Une histoire africaine de l'Afrique" ("An African History of Africa"), Le Monde reported.

In an interview with the newspaper, Badawi said the book moves beyond the Western-centered framing of slavery and colonization to offer what she called an accessible and comprehensive narrative covering the whole continent.

She told Le Monde that greater awareness among Africans of their own history could contribute to a renaissance for the continent.
