Guardian Investigation Examines US Deportation Deals Sending Migrants to Unfamiliar Countries

An investigation by The Guardian examines deportation agreements between the United States and dozens of countries that have sent thousands of migrants to nations far from their own.

The newspaper reported the case of an Iranian woman who was flown, in restraints, to a country in Africa she had not previously known existed. According to The Guardian, detainees on such flights were often not told their destination until video screens on board displayed a map.

The investigation estimated the arrangements have cost American taxpayers millions of dollars, The Guardian reported.
