Golan Heights will 'remain Syrian', President Ahmed al-Sharaa vows at UN
Syria's President Ahmed al-Sharaa told the UN the contested Golan Heights would remain Syrian despite ongoing Israeli occupation.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa told the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday that the contested Golan Heights would "remain Syrian" despite ongoing military occupation of parts of the territory by Israel.
Speaking in his second address to the UN rostrum, al-Sharaa reaffirmed Syria's longstanding position on the Golan, a plateau partially occupied by Israel since 1967 and formally annexed by Israel in 1981, a move not recognized by most of the international community.
Denouncing Israeli strikes
Al-Sharaa also used his remarks to denounce repeated Israeli strikes on Syrian territory, which he said had continued since the fall of the previous Syrian government. He framed these actions as a threat to Syria's stability as it works to rebuild following years of civil war.
The speech comes as several countries have taken varying positions on the Golan's status in recent months, including at least one government that has recognized Israel's annexation of the territory, a development that complicates the diplomatic landscape surrounding the issue.
Neither the Israeli government nor the United States has issued an immediate response to al-Sharaa's remarks. The Golan Heights remains one of the longest-running points of contention in the Arab-Israeli conflict, with its final status still unresolved under international law.
