'Freeloading' Black Bear Returns to Another Altadena Crawlspace

A black bear that became a local celebrity in the Los Angeles area last year has resurfaced, this time in the crawlspace of a different home in the Altadena neighborhood.

The roughly 550-pound bear, tagged "Yellow 2120," was spotted in the crawlspace of a home on Minoru Drive on Monday, according to reporting by The Guardian. The animal first drew widespread attention in November 2025 after taking up residence beneath another Altadena home.

Since then, Yellow 2120 has repeatedly been driven out of crawlspaces in the neighborhood, only to relocate to another nearby home rather than leaving the area entirely, earning it a reputation among residents as a persistent, if unwelcome, neighbor.

Wildlife officials in California have periodically dealt with bears wandering into residential areas as development continues to encroach on natural habitats in parts of the state, though repeated returns to the same general neighborhood by a single, identifiable animal have made this case notable.

It was not immediately clear what steps, if any, wildlife authorities plan to take to permanently relocate the bear or otherwise discourage it from returning to residential crawlspaces in the area.

Residents of the affected neighborhood have been advised in the past to secure potential food sources and avoid direct contact with the animal.
