France, UK and Denmark press Russia at UN Security Council over Ukraine war
Foreign ministers warned of Russian hybrid attacks across Europe and pledged continued support for Ukraine through the winter.
Foreign ministers from France, the United Kingdom and Denmark used a session of the United Nations Security Council to press Russia to end its war against Ukraine, warning that Moscow's actions are increasingly threatening security across Europe.
The ministers pointed to what they described as a pattern of Russian hybrid attacks targeting European countries, without providing an exhaustive public accounting of specific incidents in their remarks to the council. They framed these actions as part of a broader campaign of pressure against Ukraine's allies.
All three ministers reaffirmed their governments' commitment to continued support for Ukraine as it faces another winter of war, an important commitment given the toll previous winters have taken on the country's energy infrastructure and civilian population.
Security Council remains divided
The Security Council has struggled throughout the war to reach consensus on Ukraine, given Russia's status as a permanent member with veto power. Statements from Western ministers at council sessions are typically aimed as much at the broader international community as at swaying Russia's position directly.
The renewed appeal comes as diplomatic efforts around the conflict continue on multiple tracks, with various governments and intermediaries involved in discussions about a possible path to ending the fighting.
No immediate response from Russian officials to the ministers' remarks was included in the reporting of the session.
