France quietly expands defense cooperation with Saudi Arabia, sending troops and air-defense systems

France has confirmed it is deploying military personnel and equipment to Saudi Arabia to help protect the kingdom's energy infrastructure from attacks, bringing into public view a defense relationship between Paris and Riyadh that had largely operated out of sight.

President Emmanuel Macron said France would mobilize "soldiers, radars and defense systems" to help shield Saudi energy sites, which have come under attack from Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi movement.
