The European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) has confirmed that Russian national volleyball teams will be permitted to take part in competitions it organizes, marking a shift in the sport's approach to Russia's participation in international events.

According to a statement from the CEV Council, the decision applies specifically to CEV-organized competitions involving national teams. The confederation did not immediately provide a timeline for when Russian teams might resume play in its tournaments.

Officials indicated that while the principle of clearing Russian teams for competition has been agreed, the practical mechanics of implementing the decision remain unsettled. Specific implementation terms and the organizational mechanisms needed to carry them out are still being developed.

Those details will be submitted to the CEV's Administrative Council for approval at a later date, the confederation said, suggesting a further round of internal deliberation is needed before Russian teams can formally return to CEV events.

Part of a broader pattern

Russian teams and athletes have faced widespread exclusion from international sporting competitions since 2022, as numerous global and regional sports federations moved to suspend or restrict Russian participation. Volleyball has been among the sports affected by these measures.
