European Union envoys have extended the expiry of the bloc's Russia sanctions listings by seven days, pushing the deadline to September 22, a spokesperson for the EU's Irish presidency said on Monday, according to France 24.
The extension came after member states failed to agree on a full six-month renewal of the sanctions regime, the spokesperson said.
At the center of the disagreement is whether to remove Russian-Uzbek billionaire Alisher Usmanov from the EU's sanctions list, EU diplomats told France 24.
France has joined Slovakia in calling for Usmanov's delisting, citing national security concerns, according to the diplomats cited by France 24.
The report did not specify further details on the nature of the national security concerns raised by the two countries, nor did it indicate when a final decision on the full renewal might be reached.
