Emmanuel Macron receives party leaders at the Elysée on geopolitical situation and fuel prices
As the 2027 presidential election approaches, the head of state has summoned the main political leaders to discuss the "rapid deterioration" of the international situation.
The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, received several political party leaders on Thursday at the Elysée to address what the presidency described as a "rapid deterioration" of the international geopolitical situation, as well as the question of fuel prices, according to Le Monde.
This meeting comes as the 2027 presidential election looms on the horizon, in a context of growing international tensions highlighted by the Elysée.
According to Le Monde, most of the main potential presidential candidates responded to the invitation, including Marine Tondelier, Gabriel Attal, Raphaël Glucksmann and Bruno Retailleau.
Two notable figures were, however, absent from this gathering: Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon. According to the same source, they were represented by their respective right-hand men.
The precise content of the discussions at this meeting, as well as any follow-up that might result from it, were not detailed immediately.
