Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the failed blood-testing startup Theranos, is reportedly set to be transferred from a minimum-security federal prison to a halfway home next August, according to reports on her case.

Holmes, 42, was sentenced in 2022 to more than 11 years in prison for defrauding Theranos investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars. Her sentence has reportedly been reduced several times since then.

Theranos collapse

Theranos, once valued at billions of dollars, collapsed after it emerged that the company had falsely promoted its blood-testing technology as capable of detecting diseases, including certain cancers, from a small number of drops of finger-pricked blood.

Holmes was convicted on fraud-related charges tied to representations made to investors about the company's technology and business prospects. She was also ordered to pay restitution as part of her sentence.

Details of the conditions of Holmes's anticipated transfer to a halfway home, and the specific reasons behind the reported sentence reductions, have not been fully disclosed.

Representatives for Holmes have not issued a new public statement regarding the reported transfer.
