Earl Spencer, the brother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, has claimed in newly published extracts from his upcoming memoir that King Charles sounded "giddily elated – like a lottery winner" during a phone call immediately after Diana's death, according to The Guardian.
In the extracts, Spencer also suggests that some individuals within Buckingham Palace were "relieved" at Diana's death, though The Guardian's report does not specify further detail on the basis for this claim.
Spencer additionally alleges that Buckingham Palace officials wanted Princes William and Harry, along with himself, to walk behind Diana's coffin during her funeral procession because the then Prince Charles was "adamant" that he would walk.
