Drone that crashed in Moldova identified as Russian-made Gerbera

Fragments of a drone that crashed in Moldova have been identified as belonging to the Gerbera, a model of unmanned aerial vehicle used by Russia, according to Ukrinform.

The debris was found near the village of Cernita, located in Moldova's Florești district, the report said. Officials or investigators examining the fragments identified features characteristic of the Gerbera drone, a type that has previously been documented in connection with Russia's military operations in the region.

Moldova, which borders Ukraine, has periodically reported drone incidents and airspace incursions connected to the broader conflict since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, with debris from drones and other munitions occasionally landing on Moldovan territory. Such incidents have raised concerns in Chisinau about the risks posed by the ongoing war to its territorial security, despite Moldova not being a direct party to the conflict.

The Gerbera is one of several drone types that have been used in the conflict, and the identification of its fragments in Moldova points to the geographic reach of drone activity connected to the war well beyond Ukraine's own borders.

Ukrinform's report did not indicate any casualties or significant damage associated with the crash near Cernita.
