A new documentary, "Rising Up at Night," follows residents of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, as they navigate life amid long-running electricity shortages, according to a review in The Guardian.
Director Nelson Makengo's feature debut, shot largely in his neighborhood of Kisenso, depicts nighttime routines such as candlelit meals and light-up medallions used during prayer, the review said.
The film also touches on community concerns about crime linked to the lack of public lighting and residents' efforts to recover stolen electrical cables, according to The Guardian.
