Doctor Who Worked With Letby Calls Inquiry Findings 'Grim Reading'

A consultant doctor who worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital during the time Lucy Letby murdered seven babies has said the findings of a public inquiry into the case make for "grim reading," according to the BBC.

Dr John Gibbs was a consultant at the hospital between 2015 and 2016, the period in which Letby, a neonatal nurse, carried out the killings. He told the BBC he wished that he and his colleagues "had been brave enough to follow" their suspicions about what was happening on the unit at the time.

Letby was convicted in 2023 of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder several others while working as a nurse on the neonatal unit. Her crimes prompted a public inquiry, chaired by Lady Justice Thirlwall, into how the killings went undetected for so long and why concerns raised by senior doctors were not acted upon sooner.
