Grenfell Tower fire survivors and bereaved relatives criticized the appointment of Laura Johnson, who was director of housing at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea at the time of the 2017 fire, to a senior council housing role paying £150,000 a year, The Guardian reported.

Johnson, who the report said had pushed for a cheaper contractor before the fire, has been appointed permanent director of development and property at the Barnet Group, which manages the borough's 13,000 council homes, according to the report. Survivors and bereaved relatives urged the group to reconsider the appointment.
