Die Linke Wins Berlin State Election as AfD Surges in Germany

The radical left party Die Linke finished ahead of other parties in polls following a regional election in the German city-state of Berlin, according to RFI. The party's candidate, Elif Eralp, is projected to win between 24.5% and 26% of the vote, compared with 20% for the conservative CDU, which had led the city's government, RFI reported.

The vote was also marked by significant gains for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), which advanced in both Berlin and the northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where the party finished in first place, according to RFI.
