This strategic passage, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, carries a significant portion of the world's maritime oil trade. According to the newspaper, the conflict between Washington and Tehran is upending the daily lives of fishermen, traders and families whose ties extend to both shores of the strait.
The photographer explained, quoted by Le Monde, that he wanted to "show what war does to them," using his photographs to convey the concrete impact of the conflict on the inhabitants of these islands, whose economic activities and traditional ways of life are directly affected by regional tensions.
