Cuba was plunged into its seventh major blackout of the year on Friday, according to France 24. The outages stem from the poor condition of aging thermoelectric plants that supply the island's power, compounded by what the report describes as a de facto energy blockade imposed by Washington in January.
The Caribbean nation has endured constant power cuts throughout 2024, but the frequency and scale of blackouts have worsened significantly since the U.S. restrictions took effect earlier this year.
