CSTO Says Prospects for Dialogue with NATO Not Ruled Out
Collective Security Treaty Organization official says a platform for discussions with NATO could support regional stability, according to TASS.
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) does not believe there are no prospects for dialogue with NATO, according to a statement reported by Russian state news agency TASS.
The remarks were attributed to a CSTO official identified as Masadykov, who outlined a plan under which such dialogue could function as a platform for specialized discussions between the two organizations.
According to the report, the proposed platform would also serve as a mechanism for forming proposals aimed at the further development of the CSTO and at strengthening peace and stability within its area of responsibility.
TASS did not provide additional details on the timeline for establishing such a platform or on NATO's response to the proposal.
The CSTO is a security alliance comprising Russia and several other post-Soviet states. NATO and the CSTO have had limited formal engagement in recent years amid heightened tensions between Russia and Western countries.
