The CIA has released declassified documents that include pre-9/11 intelligence assessments of bin Laden and al-Qaeda. According to the materials, a CIA briefer told President Clinton in 1998 that bin Laden's "preferred option is to strike the US on its own soil in Washington," according to the documents.
The release provides insight into what U.S. intelligence agencies knew about bin Laden and his network in the years before the 2001 attacks.
