China Calls Dialogue With US an 'Important Pathway' for Advancing AI Cooperation

China described its dialogue with the United States as an "important pathway" for advancing cooperation on artificial intelligence, according to a report by Anadolu Agency, as the two countries prepare for another round of exchanges on the topic in November.

Beijing reiterated that it favors a United Nations-centered approach to global AI governance, the report said, positioning multilateral coordination through the UN as its preferred framework for setting international rules around the technology.

The report did not specify which officials from each side are expected to take part in the November talks or what specific issues would be on the agenda, such as AI safety standards, export controls on advanced chips, or military applications of the technology.

China and the United States have held periodic discussions on AI in recent years even as the two countries remain locked in broader strategic competition over semiconductor technology and export restrictions. Washington has imposed a series of controls limiting China's access to advanced chips and chipmaking equipment, which Beijing has criticized as an attempt to contain its technological development.
