The Minister of the Sea and Fisheries, Catherine Chabaud, has announced that aid for fishermen in the face of rising fuel prices will follow "the variation in fuel prices", according to comments reported by Le Monde.

This announcement comes after several days of mobilization by Mediterranean fishermen, who had blocked the port of Nice as well as an oil depot located in Frontignan, in the Hérault, on Thursday to protest against the weight of fuel prices on their activity.

According to the same source, these blockades have since been lifted, both in Nice and in the Hérault.

The indexation mechanism announced by the minister aims to adjust the amount of aid according to the evolution of oil prices, without any other technical details having been specified in the reported announcement.

This mobilization of professionals in the Mediterranean fishing sector is part of a context of tensions around the price of fuel, which weighs on the operating costs of fishing fleets.
