Cameroon Civil Society Groups Mobilise Against Rising Femicides

Cameroon recorded eight femicide cases in eight days during August 2026, according to France 24, marking what the broadcaster described as a particularly tragic month for women in the country.

These cases add to roughly sixty femicides already documented since the start of the year, figures compiled by Cameroon's Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family, France 24 reported.

In response, civil society associations in Yaoundé are mobilising to provide legal and psychological support to the families of victims, according to the report.

France 24 said that in Cameroon, a complaint of domestic violence rarely leads to a conviction, highlighting persistent gaps in the country's judicial response to gender-based violence.

The report, filed from Yaoundé by Indira Ayuk, Richard and Giresse Ngaana, documents efforts by grassroots organisations working directly with affected families as authorities and civil society groups confront the scale of the crisis.
