Black Bears and Humans Increasingly Cross Paths as Los Angeles Expands

People in the Los Angeles area are increasingly encountering wild animals as housing developments spread toward the edges of forests, according to The Guardian.

Each year, as summer ends and fall begins, California's black bears become hungrier while foraging for acorns, ants and pine nuts to build up calories before hibernation, The Guardian reported.

Alongside natural food sources, bears are increasingly drawn to human trash and refuse, contributing to more frequent interactions between residents and wildlife, according to the report.
